West Coast Animal Imaging (WCAI) offers affordable high-quality abdominal ultrasound imaging at the primary point of care. An accurate diagnosis at this stage means that referral to a specialist may not be required.
We collaborate directly with your veterinarian recommending the ultrasound to perform the scan at your veterinarian’s office. If you have not established care with a veterinarian, we can help you schedule both the ultrasound and the appointment to establish care with one of our staff veterinarians.
Each scan includes the following:
The historically high cost of veterinary imaging is due to the fact that doctors have performed both image capture and radiological interpretation. WCAI has re-imagined this process. Our highly-trained sonographers follow strict image capture protocols so that the ultrasound tests can be read by a radiologist or an internal medicine doctor via teleradiology. After a test is completed, referring DVMs receive a set of 45 – 50 still images and a radiologist report that includes recommendations. All images and reports are available in an online portal for convenient access.
By lowering the cost of abdominal ultrasound testing (by as much as 50%), providing pet owners an affordable option for the care their pet needs. Additionally, having an accurate diagnostic test of the pet’s condition, veterinary professionals can achieve improved outcomes.
The patient was a PU/PD with elevated liver enzymes and a low-dose dexamethasone suppression that did not support a diagnosis of hypoadrenocorticism. Testing for Cushing’s disease came back negative. The client had budget constraints that did not allow for a referral to an internal medicine specialist. The vet recommended West Coast Animal Imaging perform an abdominal ultrasound examination for approximately 50% of the initial fee required by the specialist.
The vet radiologist in their ultrasound report made the call for a diagnosis: “The mildly hyperechoic hepatic parenchyma is consistent with the presence of a vacuolar hepatopathy given the elevated liver enzyme, which is a nonspecific finding.” That confirmed a disease process was causing the elevated liver enzymes and therefore further medical workup was not indicated for the problem, only the monitoring of lab values.
The affordable ultrasound diagnosis made possible an internal medicine consultation that would not have otherwise been possible due to the pet owner’s cost restraints.
Our sonographer has received specialized training in ultrasonography resulting in image quality equivalent to a radiologist or internal medicine specialist. Our standard ultrasound protocol produces 40 – 50 images that are sent to a radiologist for interpretation.
